About the Organisation

Open Eyes Foundation is a grassroots non-governmental organization established in 2017 with a mission to ensure that no child is left behind due to a lack of educational resources. The organization works to bridge the gap between unused books and educational materials and children who need them through resource reuse, access to books, and educational support.

Through its flagship initiative, Raddi Se Shiksha, the foundation collects, reuses, and redistributes books and educational resources to children, schools, libraries, and communities. The organization also improves access to books through mobile libraries and community library initiatives, while supporting orphaned, single-parent, and economically disadvantaged children through educational kits and scholarships.

Our Journey

2017–2019 I The Beginning

Open Eyes Foundation was established in 2017 with a mission to ensure that no child is left behind due to a lack of educational resources. The journey began with door-to-door collection of used books across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.

As donations increased, the Foundation established its first office and launched the Raddi Se Shiksha Book Bank to collect, repair, store, and redistribute books and educational resources.

In 2018, the Foundation’s grassroots work was recognised by the Mayor of Chandigarh. In 2019, Founder Sandeep Kumar received the Jiyo Dil Se Award – Season 7 by MY FM 94.3 for his contribution to education and social service.

2023–2025 I Strengthening Educational Programmes

In 2023, Open Eyes Foundation partnered with RM Chemicals to launch Naya Savera, providing scholarships and educational support to orphaned, single-parent, and economically disadvantaged children.

In 2024, the Foundation partnered with eClerx to strengthen Mission Literacy and Gyaan Ka Safar – Mobile Library, helping more children receive educational kits and improved access to books.

In 2025, the Foundation launched Flybrary at Chandigarh International Airport, encouraging travellers to take, read, share, and donate books while promoting a culture of reading and resource reuse.

2020–2022 I Expanding Access to Education

During the COVID-19 period, Open Eyes Foundation launched Gyaan Ka Safar – Mobile Library to bring books directly to children and communities. The Foundation also introduced Mission Literacy and Naya Savera to support students through educational kits and scholarships.

On 25 October 2020, the Foundation’s work was featured in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat. During the same year, Bebo Technologies became the Foundation’s first CSR partner.

In 2021, SBI donated a Tempo Traveller, enabling the Foundation to launch its second Mobile Library and reach more schools and communities with books.

2026–Present | Building for the Future

In 2026, Open Eyes Foundation strengthened its governance by developing organisational policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support long-term growth and effective programme management.

The Foundation also launched the Permanent Raddi Se Shiksha Book Bank, creating a permanent centre for the collection, repair, storage, and redistribution of books and educational resources.

Today, Open Eyes Foundation continues to work towards one vision—Ensuring No Child is Left Behind Due to Lack of Educational Resources.
